Each piece that I paint is its own deeply personal and intuitive journey for me. I never have any preconceived notions of what I’m going to create. I allow each painting to evolve on its own as I respond to what it needs and asks for and an image always reveals itself to me.

Different colors and textures come together simultaneously as I work the canvas and wait to see what will emerge organically. This way of working keeps things fresh and exciting as I feel intimately engaged with the process and excited for the outcome. Each piece holds its own evocative moments or magical focal points which I intuitively pull directly out of the paint and build upon.

I have always been especially captivated by the sacred moment where sky meets sea and I draw enormous inspiration from the natural landscape around me. Each piece that I create is a reflection of my desire to explore and connect with water, light and land.

~Christen Mailler is a graduate of Tufts University’s School of The Museum of Fine Arts where she received intensive studio art training specializing in painting. She now resides on Boston’s North Shore where her studio is located and enjoys seeking inspiration for her art any place that ocean, lake, or river views can be found.
